TEACHING CAREERS

How to build a career in teaching

Explore school teaching, CTET, TET, B.Ed and higher-education career pathways.

School teaching

School teaching pathways can involve a relevant academic qualification, teacher-education qualification and eligibility/recruitment requirements set by the relevant government or school system.

CTET and TET

CTET is conducted by CBSE and relates to teacher eligibility for specified school levels. State TET examinations are conducted under the applicable state framework. Passing an eligibility test does not by itself guarantee appointment; the recruiting authority verifies eligibility and conducts recruitment according to its rules.

B.Ed and teacher education

B.Ed and other teacher-education qualifications can form part of the pathway depending on the level and recruitment rules. Students should check current NCTE and recruiting-authority requirements before choosing a course.

Higher education

For college and university teaching/research careers, students commonly consider postgraduate study, NET and research qualifications, subject to the current rules applicable to the institution and role.
