NEET UG — complete student guide.
Understand the NEET route from Class 11–12 preparation to the entrance exam, result and counselling process.
What is NEET UG?
NEET (UG) is the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test conducted by the National Testing Agency for undergraduate medical education in India. The official NEET site states that it is the common and uniform entrance test for undergraduate medical education and also applies to specified AYUSH courses.
Who normally considers NEET?
- Students aiming for undergraduate medical education such as MBBS and BDS.
- Students considering specified AYUSH undergraduate courses such as BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS.
- Candidates considering other programmes for which the relevant authority uses NEET scores, subject to the current admission rules.
Academic route
| Stage | Typical route |
|---|---|
| Class 10 | Choose a suitable senior-secondary pathway with the science subjects required for your target course. |
| Class 11–12 | Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology are central to the NEET preparation route. |
| Entrance | Appear for NEET UG according to the current NTA bulletin. |
| After result | Participate in the applicable counselling/admission process and follow the rules of the relevant counselling authority. |
What should you study?
Preparation is built around Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology according to the current syllabus. Do not rely on coaching notes alone: use the official syllabus and the current information bulletin as the primary reference.
How should a student prepare?
- Build strong concepts before increasing question volume.
- Keep a chapter-wise error log and revise weak topics repeatedly.
- Use timed tests to improve accuracy and speed.
- Analyse incorrect questions rather than simply counting mock-test scores.
- Keep a realistic backup plan for allied health, life-science or other suitable courses.
What happens after NEET?
A NEET score does not by itself guarantee a particular college. Admission depends on rank, eligibility, seat availability, category rules, counselling and the specific course/institution. Always follow the current counselling authority's instructions.
